A man was fatally stabbed at a transitional living facility in Downtown Redding on Tuesday. At approximately 7:08PM the Redding Police Department received a call of a potential stabbing at Stability Solutions, on the 11000 block of Aruba Drive. The initial caller said a man had been stabbed in the stomach. According to RPD, they quickly identified the suspect as one of the residents of the facility, 26-year-old Matthew Jacob Riddle, of Redding. He fled the facility on foot but was found by responding officers as he crossed Highway 299. The victim was another resident of Stability Solutions. Officers found him suffering from multiple life-threatening stab wounds. He was transported to Mercy Medical Center for trauma care but ultimately died from his injuries. The victim was identified as a 42-year-old former resident of Anderson. The Shasta County Coroner’s Office is working to locate and notify next of kin before releasing his identity. Redding Police says their investigation revealed that Riddle and the victim were involved in a physical fight after Riddle falsely accused the victim of being a registered sex offender. After the fight, Riddle armed himself with a kitchen knife, found out the victim and stabbed him multiple times. There is surveillance footage that shows Riddle leaving the residence and later returning to verbally mock the victim, who was being aided by other residents. Riddle then ran away from the scene.
