The District Attorney’s Office has filed a felony case of animal cruelty against a man who was arrested in Downtown Redding Thursday for abusing a puppy. Bike team officers saw 38-year-old David Burdett on Eureka Way near Court Street walking a bicycle and pulling a puppy on a leash. He was apparently yelling at the pup and yanking hard on the leash while dragging it down the road. Officers detained Burdett and checked the frightened puppy, which had bleeding paws. Animal control officers said they had reports of Burdett dragging the puppy down the road earlier but they couldn’t find him. They took custody of the little dog and Burdett was booked into jail for felony animal abuse. He was arraigned on the felony charge Monday and is in jail on $120,000 bail.
