Since Tuesday there have been four suspected Fentanyl overdoses among inmates in Shasta County Jail, including one fatality. Lives were saved in three of the overdoses as inmates were quickly treated with Narcan. 24-year-old Jonathan DeJesus Hurtado of Shasta Lake City could not be revived and was pronounced dead. He had been in jail since October 15th for a parole violation and failure to appear. All inmates are thoroughly searched during the booking process but Fentanyl is extremely concentrated and therefore easy to conceal.
