Redding Fire Department responded to simultaneous fires Monday morning. The first one was on a steep hillside off Railroad Avenue near Buenaventura Boulevard, according to Redding Fire Battalion Chief Eric Mattson. That fire was contained at less than two acres. The other fire was a more difficult task. It was burning a large pile of mixed material debris at Northstate Recycling off of Girvan Road at Eastside Road. No evacuations were ordered but area residents were being advised to shelter in place and remain indoors because of the potentially toxic nature of the large volume of smoke being produced.
