Fire crews have been preparing as well as possible for Red Flag conditions Wednesday, with high winds, high temperatures and low humidity making a dangerous combination.
The eleven fires of the 22,200 acre Happy Camp Complex now have overall containment of 39%. 9 structures are gone and more than 1,600 are threatened. There’s been one civilian fatality. Crews protecting the Town of Hamburg have made great progress on the Head Fire, which is now 61% contained at more than 6,900 acres. Highway 96 is open with some short delays where repair work is being done.
In the Six Rivers National Forest in Del Norte County, the Smith River Complex of fires is 7% contained at 75,800 acres, most of it in heavy timber.
In Trinity County northwest of Trinity Lake, the Deep Fire was active on its northeast corner Tuesday and grew a little to 4,114 acres, still 60% contained.
There are dozens of other forest fires burning in the vast forests of Northwestern California.
