Fire Managers Say Preparation Stopped Lightning Fires From Exploding On The Shasta Trinity National Forest

Managers on the Shasta-Trinity National Forest have used planning and preparation to keep this fire season much less damaging than it could have been. Equipment and personnel have staged throughout the forest for quick response to lightning fires. Between June 30th and August 2nd more than 5,000 lightning strikes started 57 wildfires. 54 were held to less than 2 acres. Only the Green, Horse and Helena Fires grew larger. The 19,022 acre Green Fire is 97% contained.
