Fire On North Side of Lake Shasta Burns Through Timber

The “Shoe Fire” in the Lake Shasta area southwest of Big Bend has grown to 1,853 acres, still with no containment. It’s threatening multiple structures, campgrounds and power infrastructure, and a number of road closures are in effect, including Fenders Ferry Road. The Shoe Fire started shortly after 1 Wednesday afternoon near the Madrone Campground in the Sulanharas Creek drainage (formerly Squaw Creek). It’s burning in thick timber on rugged steep terrain. Evacuation zone information can be checked at Protect.Genasys.COM Forest Service firefighters were able to rescue three dogs from the fire zone and returned them to their owners.

Smoke in the Redding area has been measuring at unhealthy levels on air quality monitors. People should limit their outdoor activities, especially the very young, the very old, and those with respiratory issues.
