Firefighters Douse New Lightning Fires, Increase Containment Of August Fires

Forest Service crews got a quick jump on this week’s lightning fires in the Klamath. Of the 10 known fires, the largest is the 30 acre Grants Fire near Wild Lake in the Marble Mountain Wilderness. Meanwhile crews are making progress on the more established lightning fires.

The 32,320 acre happy camp complex is 70% contained after destroying 9 structures and killing one civilian.

The Pearch Fire east of Orleans has burned about 7,666 acres with 8% containment.

The Blue Creek 2 and Marlow Fires near the East Fork of Blue Creek have burned more than 11,072 acres with no containment.

The Smith River Complex in Del Norte County has burned about 92,700 acres but crews have achieved overall containment of 77%
