Redding Fire Department worked two separate fires Thursday. At around 8:30AM engines were dispatched to a house at 3025 West Street. They found smoke coming out of the attic vents, which apparently had been going into the attic from the inside of an exterior wall was burning. It was quickly extinguished. The cause was determined to be an electrical malfunction.
Redding Firefighters were training Thursday west of Enterprise Community Park in an area behind Kids Kingdom when they noticed a smoke column growing nearby at 1:45PM in the afternoon. They hiked toward the smoke and found a vegetation fire burning up a hillside toward some houses. They radioed for engines to respond and the fire was held to about a quarter acre. A homeowner had hired a company to clear brush and run it through a chipper, but some of the wood was construction material that contained nails or screws. When it was fed through the chipper the metal caused sparks that ignited the wood chips.
