The 4th of July fireworks and auto racing set for the Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico have been canceled due to a fire and explosion at the fireworks vendor’s warehouse Tuesday evening. Seven people are missing following the incident in Esparto, in Yolo County, which also caused an 80 acre fire. Silver Dollar Speedway managers said they felt it was necessary to cancel the entire event, including racing, which will resume on July 18th. All tickets that were sold for the event will be refunded. Other fireworks displays in Northern California are unaffected by the explosion, though many of the companies behind fireworks displays have expressed their deep condolences, saying that the pyrotechnic community is very tight-knit.
