Firing Operations Help Crews Battling The Big Cliff Fire

The Big Cliff Fire, southwest of Etna, is 902 acres and 19% contained. Crews are working in shifts around the clock as they’re transported in and out of the zone by helicopters. They’re working in steep rugged terrain to secure containment lines along South Russian Creek. Tactical firing in the southeast corner has brought the fire down to established lines. The fire remains very active and is expected to get worse as forecast temperatures soar. Structure protection continues in the Rainbow Mine area. A 20 mile stretch of the Pacific Crest Trail is closed.

Crews continue to patrol, mop-up and backhaul equipment on the 21,058 Butler Fire, which remains 94% contained.

The 19,022 acre Green Fire on the northeast edge of Lake Shasta in now 99% contained.
