Flooding Expected To Continue Even As Releases From Keswick Dam Drop To 40,000 CFS

The Bureau of Reclamation has been reducing releases from Keswick dam gradually starting late Wednesday night, but with new inflow from the current storm the reduced flows may not bring much relief. The ground is saturated so it won’t soak up a lot more water as rains continue to fall. Many areas around the Sacramento River and other waterways are still underwater. The Sacramento River releases had peaked at close to 64,000 cubic feet per second. Thursday morning the plan is for releases to be down to 40,000 CFS by 8AM. Lake Shasta is 29 feet from the crest of Shasta Dam. Everyone is reminded that 6 inches of water can sweep a person off their feet and 2 feet of water can sweep a car away.
