Fortuna Man Sentenced To Two Years In Prison For Leading Corning Police On High Speed Chase

A Fortuna man has been sentenced for leading corning police on two separate chases. In January of last year an officer saw a man sleeping in the driver’s seat of a car parked off of South Street and approached him. The man refused to provide identification, saying that he was in the area to visit his son and that the car was registered to him. The officer left him alone and called dispatch to run the license plate number. It came back to 54-year-old Scott Huber, who had felony warrants from Humboldt County for violating his domestic violence probation and resisting arrest. The officer turned around to contact Huber and saw him driving away. He attempted to pull him over but Huber led him on a 15 mile chase through Corning at up to 113 miles an hour before the officer lost sight of the car on Highway 99-W. When Huber returned to Corning and officers spotted him, they tried to stop him and he led them on another chase around Corning, running stop signs and driving on the wrong side of the road. When Huber stopped and tried to get away on foot, he was caught. He’s been given a 2 year prison sentence.
