Forward Progress Stopped On Fire In Northern Siskiyou County

Evacuations were ordered Thursday afternoon for a fire in the Copco area of Northern Siskiyou County. The Heather Fire was detected at around 4 O’clock, and an hour later it had spread to a hundred acres. A couple hours after that it had grown to 240 acres and forward progress was stopped. An outbuilding was destroyed and one civilian was injured and transported by ambulance. The fire is 25% contained and most evacuation orders have been downgraded to warnings.

Crews are still doing firing operations and strengthening lines around the Big Cliff Fire southwest of Etna. It’s 41% contained at 971 acres.

Only mop-up and suppression repair remains to be done on the 21,058 acre Butler Fire between Forks of Salmon and Orleans Mountain, which is now 99% contained.
