Friday Update: Containment Continues To Increase On Shoe Fire

Crews are rapidly demobilizing on the Shoe Fire, which is now 52% contained after burning 5,127 acres. It started October 9th on the north side of Lake Shasta 12 miles southwest of Big Bend. Fire crews are in mop up and have already rolled up some five miles of hose lays around the fire perimeter. Around-the-clock patrols continue to assure that the fire activity remains within containment lines as crews eliminate hot spots in the interior. Smoke will continue to effect Redding and surrounding areas from the Shoe Fire as well as some prescribed burns in the area. All evacuation orders are reduced to warnings, with details at protect.genasys.com. A forest closure for the area remains in effect. The Forest Service says the fire was human caused. There are 847 personnel fighting the fire.
