Another round of thunderstorms is forecast to roll into Northern California next week, and wildland firefighters are hoping that any lightning is accompanied by rain. Here are some of the fires still burning, most of them sparked by lightning.
The Dillon Fire off Highway 96 south of Cottage Grove is 9,763 acres and 21% contained.
The Blue Fire northwest of Blue Mountain south of Seiad Valley is 2,627 acres and has forced a closure of the Pacific Crest Trail.
The Peak Fire north of Granite Peak southwest of Trinity Center is 508 acres and 21% contained.
The Lick Fire northwest of Trinity Center is 36 acres and 65% contained.
The Log Fire northwest of Sawyers Bar is 992 acres.
Around 759 acres of heavy timber and brush has burned in the Root Fire a few miles west of Castle Crags. It’s 45% contained.
The Cedar Fire in the Post Mountain area of Trinity County has been remapped at 92 acres. It’s 15% contained.
