Calling it a waste of county resources, a member of the Shasta County Citizens Election Advisory Commission has suddenly resigned. Dawn Duckett says the powerless commission is not a valuable use of her time or anyone else’s. On a Facebook posting Duckett says the intent of the commission was to increase trust in the elections process but it has not only failed to live up to that, but has caused confusion and additional mistrust. Her opinion that the commission should be disbanded was echoed by a number of public commenters at Tuesday’s supervisors meeting. Some called for abolishment while others said it should exist under the authority of the elections department. A radio ad voiced by commission member Bev Gray and funded by Supervisor Patrick Jones has led the California Secretary of State’s Office to request a local investigation.
