Ever wanted to give back to the community? You should consider being a Shasta County Grand Juror. The Superior Court is continuing to accept applications through April 10th. The Grand Jury will begin its one-year term June 16. The Grand Jury is the only independent oversight body with the power to investigate and report on the operations of local public agencies, including the county, cities, school districts and special district governments. Topics can be suggested by the jurors themselves, can come to the jury’s attention through the media, or can be submitted to the jury by local residents via a formal request for investigation. To be eligible you must be interested in how local government works and how it can operate more effectively. You should be willing to cooperate with other jurors as a team to plan and conduct thorough and unbiased investigations. You should also be open to active listening, thoughtful questioning, online research, and writing and editing reports. Being a Grand Juror requires about 20 hours per week for one year. The term begins on June 16th, and you should apply by April 10th. To learn more about the Shasta County Grand Jury and how to apply visit shastacountygrandjury.org.
