A local environmentalist group is planting trees in front yards for free. The Shasta Environmental Alliance has gotten a grant from a non-profit foundation that will pay them to plant 15-Gallon shade trees in the front yards of 50 Redding homes. The goal is to improve air quality and reduce energy costs, as well as provide the universal benefit of increasing Redding’s tree canopy. Anyone who wants a free tree, with free labor to dig a hole and plant it, can apply on the web site ecoshasta.org.
