September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, and with Shasta County having a suicide rate about 3 times the state average, the Department of Health and Human Services wants everyone to know that “mental health first aid” training is available for free to anyone. There are programs for adults as well as youth. All training includes 2 hours of online pre-work and a 7 and a half hour in-person session at the Shasta College Health Sciences Building in Downtown Redding. The next set of classes will be held on Friday the 6th. Information on signing up is available at 440-6033.
