Mount Shasta climbing rangers had to perform a rescue Saturday on one of the most difficult and dangerous areas of the mountain. It took 12 hours to retrieve the climber from the Whitney Glacier at around 11,600 feet elevation. Visibility was very poor so aircraft couldn’t be used and the job was left to climbing rangers and Siskiyou County Search and Rescue. The Forest Service says the climber broke a number of important points of advice, including climbing late in the day during a whiteout and separating from his group.
