A house in South Redding was heavily damaged by fire Monday. At 11:30AM Redding Fire Department was called to Irvin Road, located in the Girvan Road neighborhood. They found a house well involved in fire that was burning on the exterior and spreading through the attic. The fire was under control by 12:15PM. There were no working smoke detectors but the 4 people inside had safely escaped after neighbors told them their house was on fire. An investigator determined the fire started from hot ashes that were discarded in a garbage can. Damage to the $460,000 house is estimated at $150,000 to the structure and another $100,000 worth of contents.
