An inmate has died in custody in the Shasta County Jail. On Sunday correctional deputies were on their routine rounds of welfare checks when they found the unresponsive man in his cell. He could not be revived and was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been released. The cause of death is under investigation. In May the Shasta County Grand Hury investigated after 5 inmate deaths occurred within a 13 month period.
