Ink Issue Affecting Some Ballots In Shasta County

Election officials in Shasta County are dealing with a print issue affecting ballot processing for next Tuesday’s Presidential Election. Ink overspray on some ballots is preventing scanning equipment from reading them, despite not being visible to the naked eye. Although it passed pre-election tests, officials are now duplicating these affected ballots to ensure each vote is counted as required by California Law. This change in procedure, which includes careful monitoring for transparency, won’t impact voters’ ability to cast their ballots. It is unclear at this time how many of the nearly 117,000 ballots issued are affected by the error. To date, the elections office has already received about 32,500 ballots. Those interested in observing the process can visit the Elections Office at 1643 Market Street., but should confirm scheduling before arriving.
