The Redding Fire Department was called Sunday night to a reported vegetation fire in the Oak Mesa Lane area near Candlewood Drive. When the first engine arrived about a half acre of vegetation was burning behind multiple homes. Crews provided structure protection stopping the fire at two acres. At least one small spot fire was extinguished by homeowners. No homes were damaged, but there was $10,000 worth of damage to multiple fences. Crews spent about three hours mopping up the fire. Investigators determined the fire was started when two juveniles were playing with a lighter. They will be diverted to the Youth Fire Setter Prevention and Intervention Program.
