Lake Shasta Levels Drops As Releases Reach 60,000 CFS

Boosted water releases into the Sacramento River will continue to cause flooding. On Friday the Bureau of Reclamation boosted releases from Keswick up to 60,000 cubic feet per second, and that volume of release continues Monday morning. A week ago it was at 5,000 cubic feet per second. The 12-fold increase was due to massive inflows to Lake Shasta from the torrent of rain. The lake level had risen more than 25 feet in a week, and was 15 feet below the crest of the dam. Monday morning it’s back down to 20 feet from the crest.
