Lawnmower Sparks Half Acre Fire In North Redding

Sometimes safety measures can harm the very thing being protected. All Redding residents are urged to clear defensible space, but it’s best to do it before 10AM when the weather starts heating up and the humidity drops. When using metal bladed tools extra precautions should be taken, like having a water source ready just in case. Just after 10AM Wednesday Redding Fire Department was called to Bottlebrush Drive in North Redding for a vegetation fire. They found about a quarter acre burning in an open field, and they ended up containing the fire to about a half acre. Fire investigators say the fire was caused by someone with a lawnmower, the metal blade of which struck a rock and caused a spark that ignited the weeds.
