Lawsuit May Be Filed Against The County After Hiring Of Failed CEO Candidate As Health Care Consultant

In closed session Tuesday, the Shasta County Board of Supervisors will discuss a notice from former public defender Jeff Gorder that he’s considering a lawsuit over the hiring of Chriss Street as a health care consultant. Gorder says he believes the $40,000 contract with Street represents “crony government at its worst and may constitute an illegal expenditure or a waste of county funds”. Gorder has made a public records request for materials related to the search for a healthcare consultant. The contract with Street was approved last week over the objections of Supervisor Alan Long. Two years ago the Board of Supervisors offered, and then rescinded, an offer of the CEO job to Street. He’s a transplant from Orange County, where he campaigned for a split of the state. He apparently failed the background check for the CEO position, but Long said the reasons were never disclosed. Street was a supporter of Board Chair Kevin Crye during last year’s recall campaign.
