Livestock Owner Forfeits Neglected Livestock Seized In July

Some livestock animals seized by Trinity County Animal Control are seeing some improvement since being taken from a Hayfork location in July. The 23 Sheep and two Horses were severely neglected and appeared to be starving. The Sheriff’s Office is still seeking prosecution for animal cruelty against the caretaker of the animals. That person owned both Horses but the Sheep were owned by someone who lived out-of-town. A family member of the Sheep owner has taken custody of the flock. The person charged has stopped communicating with Animal Control and failed to make financial arrangements for the care of the Horses and has therefore forfeited any claim to them. The older of the two Horses has now been placed with a caring family, and the second Horse is awaiting adoption.
