Local Events Will Mark MLK Day On Monday

Things are changing a bit for this year’s annual City of Redding observance of Doctor Martin Luther King Junior Day. Monday’s events will mostly take place from 10AM to 3PM at the Sequoia Middle School Performing Arts Center. There will be an MLK Day of Service celebration program, performances, information booths, free lunch, and a march to City Hall, followed by a prayer and praise circle. Organizers say the events are themed around “shifting the cultural climate through the study and practice of Kingian nonviolence”. There’s more information on the Facebook Page for Redding MLKL Center or by calling (530) 524-7504. Of course, in keeping with the inclusive philosophies of Doctor King, every member of the community is invited to the events. Public schools and most government offices will be closed Monday and there will be no mail delivery.
