With one of the highest suicide rates in the state, at nearly three times the state average, Shasta County has good reason to recognize September as Suicide Prevention Month. The theme this year is “Love Over Loneliness”, as a key to preventing suicide is to connect with others and foster meaningful relationships. On Saturday, members of the community are encouraged to join the Out Of The Darkness Community Walk at Caldwell Park. Next Tuesday is the Light Of Hope Event at Sundial Bridge. Details and free registration for events, training and other resources can be found at youmattershasta.org. A national 24-hour mental health and suicide crisis line can be accessed by calling 9-8-8 on any phone, or chat at 988lifeline.org.
