A Bay Area man accused of killing his mother in Shasta County has been deemed mentally incompetent to stand trial. 50-year-old Yose Elizabeth Barron-Alcazar was stabbed to death the morning of May 24th in her home on Lynda Lynn Way off Union School Road. The 9-1-1 call had been made by her son, 21-year-old Jacob Jesse Mandujano of Redwood City, who was outside when deputies arrived. In court his attorney requested that he be mentally evaluated before further proceedings. That evaluation led to his being referred to state mental authorities. A hearing this Friday will determine whether to send him from Shasta County Jail to a state hospital where an attempt will be made to restore him to competency so he can understand the nature of the charges and assist in his own defense.
