A man from the Amador County town of Pioneer died after his canoe capsized in Lake Britton on Wednesday. At around noon 73-year-old James Lawrence Marques and his 72-year-old wife were paddling a canoe around the lake near Burney when it overturned. The woman was wearing a life jacket and swam to shore, but MR Marques’ life jacket was not being worn properly and he was unable to make it. The woman was on the shoreline trying to wave down passing boaters for hours before she was seen by someone. They alerted Shasta County Sheriff’s Deputies, who launched a boat and began to search. Marques’ body was found along the shore and he was pronounced dead.
