A man was killed in a big rig crash in southern Siskiyou County very early Wednesday morning. At 12:30am the tractor-trailer was northbound on Highway 89 when the 72-year-old driver fell asleep. The truck drifted off the highway and struck a tree. That woke the driver, who overcorrected and sent the cab of the truck hanging over an embankment with the trailer blocking both directions of the highway. The driver was wearing a seatbelt and sustained only minor injuries, but 32-year-old Amrit Pal Singh of Rancho Cordova was unrestrained in the sleeper portion of the cab, and he died of his injuries after arriving at Mayers Memorial Hospital. His family has been notified.
