A 43-year-old Shasta County man has made a plea deal on charges of brutally abusing his girlfriend. On July 17th, Thomas Edward Carter arrived at their home and laid into her, beating her, strangling her to unconsciousness and making multiple threats to kill her. Last Thursday Carter pled no contest to attempted murder and corporal injury to a cohabitant, as well as to having a prior strike. He agreed to a 19 year prison term, with sentencing set for November 12th.
