A Chico man has been sentenced for the shooting death of his wife last year. 53-year-old John Waveng Her had plead guilty to first degree murder for the killing on September 7th. Her and family members had gathered at a relative’s home on White Avenue to discuss the couple’s separation. Her’s wife, 50-year-old Xe Lor, said she wanted a divorce and as she walked outside, her followed the victim and shot her twice from a pistol that was concealed in his jacket. He then tried to shoot himself in the head but it was only a grazing shot across the top of his skull. He then shot his wife two more times before family members took the gun away and held him until police arrived. Her told detectives he felt he had no other options when his wife said she didn’t want to be married to him anymore. Her was sentenced Wednesday to 25 years to life in state prison.
