A Shasta Lake man has been given a very long sentence by a Tehama County court due to his prior convictions. In February of last year 60-year-old John Patrick Alander was arrested on Brian Road in Red Bluff and charged with felony criminal threats to commit great bodily injury, as well as misdemeanor obstructing police. He was shining a flashlight onto the victim’s property and yelling threats and saying he had a gun. When deputies arrived, they found Alander hiding in the nearby woods. His jury trial ended in December with guilty verdicts, and the jury also acknowledged two prior violent felonies that counted as strikes under the three strikes statute. Alander has been given the maximum sentence of 35-years-to-life in prison.
