A bad witness has led to a much abbreviated sentence for a Whitmore killing, according to the Shasta County District Attorney’s Office. In August of last year, 37-year-old Russell Harris of Whitmore was fatally shot in the chest at a property off Whitmore Road. An investigation by Shasta County Sheriff’s Detectives led to 31-year-old Christian Daniel Wilding as the suspected shooter. Redding Police took Wilding into custody during a traffic stop the next day. Wilding and Harris knew each other prior to the shooting, but there was only one eyewitness and he apparently lied multiple times about key details in the case, making the murder charge unproveable. Wilding entered no contest pleas last week to involuntary manslaughter and assault with a deadly weapon. He was sentenced to 5 years in state prison
