Man Sentenced To Nearly 7 Years For Stabbing Last Year In Corning

A 24-year-old Corning man has been sentenced for attacking a man and stabbing him multiple times. Juan Ramon Ramirez was arrested last October after Corning Police had been seeking him for a few days. He had been ordered by the courts to stay away from his ex-girlfriend and was on probation after being convicted of abusing her. The ex-girlfriend was in a parked car with a 22-year-old man when Ramirez saw them and pulled up in front of them, blocking them in. The ex-girlfriend got out and confronted him to try and prevent a fight, but Ramirez shoved past her, opened the car door and started stabbing the man multiple times, in the chest, the upper thigh, both biceps and one of his hands. Ramirez then fled to hide out in Chico. An arrest warrant was issued but the whereabouts of Ramirez were unknown until a few days later, when an off-duty Corning Police Officer spotted him in Chico. The officer followed Ramirez back to Tehama County and notified on-duty officers, who did a felony stop at gunpoint just after Ramirez turned off of Highway 99 onto South Avenue. Ramirez surrendered without incident. He’s been sentenced to almost 7 years in state prison.
