A pedestrian was struck and killed in South Redding Thursday night. Redding Police and fire departments arrived at around 8:20PM to the scene on Highway 273 at Canyon Road. A 2017 Nissan Altima was stopped in the center median with a man wedged underneath it. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The 21-year-old female driver told police that she was southbound approaching the intersection when she saw a large object in the road and braked, but could not stop in time and ran over it. She stopped in the median and only then realized she had run over a person. The RPD Traffic Division does not suspect her of being intoxicated. The highway was partially closed for about two hours. Anyone with helpful information is asked to contact the police.
