Mercy Medical Center Is Lit Red To Honor American Heart Month

February is American Heart Month and Mercy Medical Center is lit up red in honor of that, and to bring more awareness to the leading cause of death in the United States. Nearly 700,000 Americans die of Heart Disease each year, and in the North State Heart Disease is 5.4% higher than the state average. 75% of North State residents carry risk factors for hypertension. There are ways to work to maintain a healthy heart, including 30 minutes a day of moderate intensity exercise and eating healthy foods like fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean proteins.
