Mountain Lion Takes Up Residence In Downtown Redding

A Mountain Lion has been making a home near Downtown Redding. A few scattered sightings of a Cougar had been made over the past couple of weeks, including in the area of Shasta and Willis Streets. A pattern that may indicate a territorial connection has been seen now. The owner of a house on Chestnut Street says his backyard surveillance camera has captured the big cat for 5 consecutive nights. The Lion can be seen lounging, napping and grooming as it makes itself at home. Wildlife experts say that if confronted by a Mountain Lion, a person should remain calm and allow the cat an escape route. It’s a good idea to make oneself appear as large as possible and always face the Lion. Running is the worst choice, as that makes a person appear to be prey.
