National Group Makes Public Records Request For Information On Local Election Deniers

A news story has drawn a rebuke from the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office. A national group called “American Oversight” made a public records request to the Sheriff’s Office asking for information about various election deniers. The group was trying to find a connection between local and distant figures, including Kevin Crye, Terry Rapozo, Reverge Anselmo and Mike Lindell. The public records request was denied, but the nature of the request led a Record Searchlight reporter to conclude that the Sheriff’s Office did have an investigation underway, and they published that as fact after receiving a seemingly ambiguous response from the department. In a subsequent statement, the Sheriff’s Office flatly denied the existence of any story at all.
