The Shasta County Agriculture Report was delivered to the Board of Supervisors Tuesday, and an interesting footnote was nearly overlooked by many observers. A product that’s not even officially included in the report beat out all the traditional crops for value. Nearly $30 Million worth of Cannabis was grown legally last year in Shasta County. That figure eclipsed the top traditional crop, which is Hay valued at $25 Million. Cattle brought in nearly $24 Million and nursery stock produced nearly $10 Million. Cannabis is only grown legally within the cities of Redding and Shasta Lake, and only in tightly controlled indoor facilities.
