A shiny brand new fire engine has entered service in North Redding. Deputy Chief Eric McMurtry has been assembling a brand new fleet of engines and trucks, with the latest from Wisconsin being Engine 6. With a home at Station Number 6, the engine serves the North Redding and Buckeye area. It replaces an engine from the 2011 model year, which will go into the reserve fleet. Next will be a replacement for Truck 1, which is a ladder truck stationed in Downtown Redding. That same truck will, for the first time ever, be staffed with four personnel, a Captain, an Engineer and two Firefighters. This is be key in being ready for an increase in multi story apartments and commercial buildings. The department is in the planning phase for Fire Station Number 9, which will be on a piece of land purchased from state fund on Tarmac Drive just off Shasta View.
