California Gov. Gavin Newsom is planning to make a one-day stop in Israel en route to China on a previously announced trip to discuss policies to curb global warming. Newsom said Thursday that he will arrive Friday in Israel and meet with those impacted by the Israel-Hamas war. His office says California is also sending medical supplies to the region, including provisions for the Gaza Strip. California is home to the largest U.S. population of Arab Americans and the country’s second-largest populations of Jews. Starting Monday, Newsom will kick off a weeklong tour in China focused on climate change policies.
