The Redding Record Searchlight says Shasta County has been ordered by the court to pay the newspaper nearly $90,000 in legal fees stemming from a public records lawsuit. The county has not disclosed how many taxpayer dollars it spent on private attorneys in resisting the newspaper’s repeated requests for records pertaining to allegations of mismanagement by former Sheriff Eric Magrini. He was removed from his post as Sheriff and given a newly-created title of Assistant County Executive Officer. It’s unclear just what Magrini is doing now, but he’s apparently on leave. The records, with personal information redacted, were finally turned over last August after a two year court battle.
