Over $33 Million Allocated For Fire Prevention Projects In The Shasta-Trinity National Forest

The U.S. Forest Service has announced funding for a variety of fire prevention projects in the Shasta-Trinity and Six Rivers National Forests. More than $33 Million has been allocated for forest thinning, ground fuels reduction, prescribed burning, fuel break construction and infrastructure improvements to reduce the risk to wildfire-prone woodlands. The 1.6 Million acres of Trinity Forest area was recognized last year as one of 21 high-risk landscapes to get additional funding in the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment Act. The Forest Service acknowledges that it was many decades of fire suppression, along with a warmer and drier climate, that has created a heightened risk of catastrophic wildfires.
