Ownership of large tracts of watershed lands have been transferred from PG&E for public benefit. The 40,000 acres statewide includes a large section of the McArthur Swamp in Eastern Shasta County. The various plots of land provide critical habitat for fish, wildlife and plants, as well as recreation, forestry and agriculture. In addition to the 40,000 acres handed over to non-profit conservation organizations, PG&E is retaining ownership of another 100,000 acres that has been placed in permanent protected status. The land commitment was formalized Monday.
