Phone Scammers Targeting The Elderly During Medicare Open Enrollment Penrod

With Medicare open enrollment period underway, there are scam artists eager to take advantage of the opportunity to fleece elderly victims. Callers can fake the caller ID to make it appear that medicare is calling, so trust is established before the victim even answers the phone. The caller asks for numbers that can access Medicare, Social Security or bank accounts. They may say that payment is needed for delivery of a Medicare card or medical equipment. Medicare will never call and ask for information. When in doubt, hang up and call 1-800-MEDICARE.
